A major security alert was triggered at Pune International Airport after a note containing the word "bomb" was discovered inside the restroom of an IndiGo flight scheduled to travel from Pune to Guwahati. The incident created panic among passengers and airport staff, leading to an extensive security operation and significant delays.
According to airport officials, the flight was preparing for departure on Friday morning when a cabin crew member made a routine inspection of the aircraft. During the check, an air hostess found a handwritten note with the word "bomb" written in large letters inside one of the plane's washrooms. Recognizing the seriousness of the situation, she immediately informed the flight crew.
The crew quickly alerted airport authorities and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), which is responsible for airport security. Following standard safety procedures, the aircraft was moved to an isolated area of the airport to minimize any potential risk. Passengers were safely evacuated from the plane and taken to a secure location while security teams began a detailed inspection.
Bomb detection squads, security personnel, and local police conducted a thorough search of the aircraft. Every section of the plane, including passenger seating areas, cargo compartments, and restrooms, was carefully examined. However, after an extensive search operation, authorities did not find any explosives or suspicious objects on board.
Officials later confirmed that the bomb threat was false. Despite the discovery turning out to be a hoax, the incident caused major disruption to flight operations. The IndiGo flight was delayed for nearly eight hours while security checks and investigations were completed.
Police have launched an investigation into the matter. Senior Police Inspector Govind Jadhav stated that a case has been registered against an unidentified individual who allegedly left the note inside the aircraft restroom. Preliminary findings suggest that the act may have been intended as a prank, but authorities are treating the matter seriously because false bomb threats can create public panic and disrupt airport operations.
Airport officials emphasized that all security protocols were followed correctly and that passenger safety remained the top priority throughout the incident. Although no danger was ultimately found, the event highlights the importance of strict aviation security measures and the swift response required whenever a potential threat is reported.
Authorities are now reviewing available evidence, including CCTV footage and passenger records, to identify the person responsible for the false bomb scare.
