New Delhi: Congress MP and Leader of Opposition Rahul Gandhi has raised serious concerns regarding the scanning process of CBSE answer sheets, accusing authorities of compromising students’ interests. Through a social media post, Gandhi alleged that the examination process was not conducted according to the standards outlined in the board’s tender requirements, potentially affecting the results of lakhs of students.
According to Rahul Gandhi, the Central Board of Secondary Education had initially specified in its 2025 tender that answer sheets should be scanned using automated robotic scanners. These machines were intended to ensure accuracy, maintain the quality of scanned documents, and protect the integrity of students’ answer booklets. However, he claimed that the conditions of the tender were later modified, allowing the use of mobile phones for scanning instead of advanced robotic systems.
The Congress leader alleged that these changes benefited a particular company and came at the cost of students’ futures. He argued that reducing the quality standards of the scanning process could have negatively impacted the evaluation of answer sheets and, consequently, the final results of students.
Rahul Gandhi further criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi, saying that while the Prime Minister had time to discuss topics such as different varieties of mangoes, he had remained silent on an issue affecting nearly 18.5 lakh students. Gandhi remarked that the concerns of students deserved equal attention, especially when questions were being raised about the transparency and reliability of the examination process.
The opposition leader also referred to the alleged “OSM” issue involving CBSE and claimed that the Prime Minister’s silence was not merely indifference but suggested possible complicity. He pointed out that the original tender included provisions to keep answer booklets securely bound and required scanning at a minimum resolution of 300 DPI to ensure high-quality digital records.
According to Gandhi, key clauses were removed from the tender in August, leading to a reduction in scanning standards. He claimed that the resolution requirement was lowered to 200 DPI, a change that effectively enabled the use of mobile phones for scanning answer sheets instead of specialized automated equipment.
Rahul Gandhi demanded a transparent investigation into the matter and called for accountability from those responsible. He also criticized Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, questioning why no action had been taken despite the allegations. The Congress leader maintained that students and their families deserve clear answers regarding the handling and evaluation of examination records.
The controversy has sparked political debate, with opposition leaders demanding greater transparency in the CBSE examination system and the tender process related to answer-sheet digitization.
