The 35-year-old, who has not been named, was spearfishing with family off Michaelmas Island, south-east of Perth, when he was attacked at 11:25 local time (03:25 GMT) on Saturday, police said. He was taken by boat to shore where he was met by paramedics, who were unable to revive him. Police said they would prepare a report for the coroner, in a statement shared by local media. The BBC has contacted officials to confirm the reports. The Department of Primary Industries and Regional Development (DPIRD) said it was assisting police and local authorities with the incident. It has also urged residents to report any shark sightings, local media report.
