Amazon Announces ₹4.1 Lakh Crore India Investment During CEO’s Delhi Visit
Amazon CEO Andy Jassy met Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Thursday during his visit to India and announced a massive investment of ₹4.1 lakh crore (around $48 billion) in the country over the next five years. The announcement marks one of the largest investment commitments by a global technology company in India. Prime Minister Modi shared details of the meeting on social media, welcoming Amazon’s record investment and highlighting its potential to create significant employment opportunities for Indian youth. He stated that the investment reflects growing global confidence in India’s economy and its business-friendly environment. Andy Jassy also expressed enthusiasm about Amazon’s future plans in India. In a social media post, he said the company has been serving Indian customers, sellers, developers, startups, and enterprises for more than a decade and believes there is still tremendous growth potential in the country. According to Amazon, the planned investment will include more than $21 billion dedicated to artificial intelligence (AI) and cloud infrastructure. The company aims to strengthen its cloud computing services through Amazon Web Services (AWS) while expanding advanced AI capabilities across India. Amazon has also outlined ambitious long-term goals. By 2030, the company expects to support approximately 3.8 million jobs, enable $80 billion in e-commerce exports, and help around 15 million small businesses leverage AI-driven tools. Additionally, Amazon plans to bring AI-related benefits and learning opportunities to nearly 4 million public school students. The announcement comes at a time when global technology giants are investing heavily in AI infrastructure and data centers. Amazon’s expanded presence is expected to benefit Indian startups, businesses, and government organizations by providing greater access to advanced cloud services and AI technologies within the country.
