The National Testing Agency (NTA) has officially announced the new date for the NEET UG 2026 re-examination. According to the latest update, the exam will now be conducted on June 21, 2026, after the original examination held on May 3 was cancelled due to the alleged paper leak controversy. The announcement has brought some relief to nearly 22 lakh students and their families who were waiting for clarity regarding the future of the medical entrance exam.
NTA shared the information through its official social media platform X, stating that the re-examination has been approved by the Government of India. Along with the announcement, the agency also issued an important warning for students and parents, advising them to trust only official NTA sources for updates and avoid fake news or misleading information circulating online. Students have been asked to contact NTA only through its official website, email ID, or helpline numbers for authentic information.
Meanwhile, the paper leak controversy has intensified political and legal pressure on the central government and NTA. Petitions have reportedly been filed in the Supreme Court seeking strict action, including demands for dissolving NTA and conducting the examination under court supervision.
To review preparations for the re-examination, a high-level meeting was held at the residence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan. Senior officials from the education ministry, CBSE, NTA, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti attended the meeting to discuss examination arrangements and security measures.
At the same time, the CBI investigation into the paper leak case is continuing. Five accused individuals were recently presented before Delhi’s Rouse Avenue Court. The court granted the CBI seven days of custody for further interrogation. According to investigators, the paper leak network may be spread across several states, and more major revelations are expected as the investigation progresses.
