Delhi CM Rekha Gupta Demands Answers on Rahul Gandhi’s Travel Expenses

A fresh political controversy has erupted after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) questioned Congress leader and Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi over his foreign travel expenses. The BJP claimed that Rahul Gandhi’s declared income and his alleged spending on overseas trips do not match, raising concerns about financial transparency and accountability. According to BJP leaders, Rahul Gandhi reportedly made 54 foreign trips between 2004 and 2026. The party alleged that around ₹60 crore was spent on these international visits, while his declared income between 2013 and 2023 was approximately ₹11 crore. BJP leaders described this as a major mismatch between income and expenditure and demanded an explanation regarding the source of the funds used for these trips. Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta also targeted Rahul Gandhi on social media, saying that details of his “mysterious foreign tours” are now before the public. She questioned how a person with a declared income of ₹11 crore could allegedly spend several times that amount on international travel. She said the country deserves a clear explanation regarding who financed these visits. Rekha Gupta further stated that if foreign organizations funded these trips, it could amount to a violation of FCRA (Foreign Contribution Regulation Act) rules. On the other hand, if the expenses were paid privately, she questioned why they were not properly reflected in official financial disclosures or income tax filings. According to her, the issue raises serious legal and ethical concerns, especially when transparency is expected from senior political leaders. The BJP has also asked whether approvals under FCRA were obtained if foreign entities were involved in sponsoring the trips. The party argued that all such financial transactions should have proper records and disclosures under Indian law. BJP leaders said the absence of clear public documentation has created doubts and therefore Rahul Gandhi should clarify the matter before the nation. So far, there has been no official response from Rahul Gandhi or the Congress party regarding these allegations.
