Security forces in Jammu and Kashmir successfully destroyed a terrorist hideout during a joint “Search and Destroy Operation” (SADO) carried out in the Khanj Pathri area of Aragam in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district. The operation was conducted between May 14 and 15 by the Indian Army’s 13 Rashtriya Rifles, the Jammu and Kashmir Police Special Operations Group, and the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).
According to officials, the operation was launched after intelligence inputs suggested the presence of terrorists hiding in the dense forest region. During the search, security personnel discovered natural caves that were allegedly being used as terrorist shelters. Before entering the caves, forces fired stun grenades to ensure that no militants were present inside.
A large quantity of arms, ammunition, and survival supplies was recovered from the hideout. Security forces seized one AK-47 magazine along with 22 live cartridges. Apart from weapons, several items linked to long-term stay and logistics support were also found, indicating that militants had been using the area as a base camp.
Recovered materials included clothing items such as pherans, sweaters, shoes, blankets, a sleeping bag, mattresses, and raincoats. Electronic equipment including a power bank, solar panel, radio set, mobile charger, batteries, and headphones was also recovered. Authorities further found cooking utensils, gas cylinders, steel plates, and ration supplies such as rice, pulses, dry fruits, biscuits, instant noodles, and medicines.
Officials stated that the discovery highlights how terrorists continue to use the dense forests of north Kashmir to hide and maintain supply networks. Security agencies have intensified surveillance and anti-terror operations in these remote regions to prevent infiltration and disrupt militant activities.
The successful operation is being seen as a significant achievement for the security forces in maintaining control over vulnerable forest areas and preventing potential terror-related activities in the region.
