A political controversy erupted after Union Textile Minister Giriraj Singh made a controversial statement about AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi. Giriraj Singh reportedly said that “if not today, then tomorrow, Owaisi will also admit that he is a Hindu.” The remark quickly went viral on social media and triggered strong political reactions from opposition leaders and the public.
Reacting sharply to the statement, Owaisi rejected the minister’s remarks and said such comments have no constitutional or logical basis. He emphasized that leaders holding public office should speak responsibly and remain within the framework of the Constitution and the law. Owaisi also referred to the idea of “pure conscience,” indirectly reminding Giriraj Singh about the oath taken by ministers while serving the country.
While many expected a direct political counterattack, Owaisi instead shifted focus toward the growing economic crisis in India’s textile sector. He highlighted the difficulties being faced by powerloom workers, weavers, and small textile businesses across major textile hubs such as Varanasi, Surat, Malegaon, and Mubarakpur.
According to Owaisi, rising cotton yarn prices and increasing raw material costs are severely hurting small textile industries. He said that despite stable textile prices in the market, manufacturers are struggling with higher production costs, putting immense pressure on powerloom owners and laborers. Many small units are reportedly on the verge of closure, threatening thousands of jobs connected to the textile sector.
Owaisi further stated that cheap imports from China are damaging domestic industries and demanded anti-dumping duties to protect Indian textile manufacturers and workers. He argued that the government should focus more on economic and employment-related challenges instead of making communal or religious remarks.
Giriraj Singh’s statement has sparked widespread debate online, with many social media users questioning why political leaders are discussing religious identity instead of pressing issues such as unemployment, inflation, the NEET paper leak controversy, and Bihar’s development. The controversy has once again intensified discussions around political rhetoric and governance priorities in the country.
