NEET Scam Allegations: Rahul Gandhi Demands Action from Education Minister

The NEET exam controversy has once again triggered a major political debate in the country after reports of a paper leak and the subsequent cancellation of the medical entrance examination. The issue has drawn sharp criticism from opposition leaders, especially Congress MP Rahul Gandhi, who has targeted the central government and questioned the functioning of the education system and examination authorities. Following the cancellation of NEET, one of India’s most important medical entrance exams, opposition parties intensified their attack on the Modi government, accusing it of failing to prevent repeated exam paper leaks. Rahul Gandhi alleged that despite earlier incidents in 2024, similar irregularities have resurfaced in 2026, raising serious concerns about the credibility and security of national-level examinations. In his remarks, Rahul Gandhi questioned why strict action has not been taken against those responsible for the leaks and why the Education Minister has not resigned despite repeated failures. He also accused the government of trying to manage the situation through procedural steps such as CBI investigations and committee formations instead of addressing the root cause of the problem. According to him, after the 2024 controversy, a CBI probe and reform committee were set up, but the recurrence of similar issues in 2026 shows that these measures have not been effective. Rahul Gandhi also raised three key questions directed at Prime Minister Narendra Modi. First, he asked how such sensitive and high-stakes examinations continue to be compromised repeatedly, and whether the institutions responsible for conducting exams have completely failed in preventing leaks. He also questioned whether the so-called “exam mafia” has gained influence over the system due to weak safeguards. Second, he referred to the Prime Minister’s “Pariksha Pe Charcha” initiative, where students are advised to stay stress-free, and asked why the Prime Minister remains silent when millions of students and families are under mental stress due to repeated exam failures and leaks. Third, he questioned the accountability of the Education Minister, stating that repeated incidents have damaged the credibility of India’s examination system and raised concerns about leadership responsibility. He demanded to know why the minister continues in office despite these alleged failures. Adding to the criticism, senior Congress leader and Rajya Sabha MP Pramod Tiwari also attacked the government, calling the situation a serious failure of the education system. He claimed that paper leaks are not isolated incidents but part of a larger pattern, alleging that more than 80 examinations across different levels have been affected in recent times. He demanded both political and moral accountability from the government. Overall, the controversy has escalated into a major political confrontation, with the opposition demanding strong action and systemic reforms, while the government faces pressure to restore trust in India’s examination framework.
