In a major step toward women’s empowerment and financial independence, the Delhi government has announced collateral-free loans of up to ₹10 crore for women-led startups and self-help groups (SHGs). The initiative was unveiled by Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta during the “Mega SHG Mela-2026” held in Rohini.
The scheme is aimed at helping women start and expand their businesses without the burden of providing property or other assets as security. According to the Chief Minister, the Delhi government itself will guarantee these loans, making it easier for women entrepreneurs to access financial support from banks and institutions.
Addressing the gathering at the event, Rekha Gupta said the government is committed to strengthening women economically by introducing policies that promote self-reliance and entrepreneurship. She explained that many talented women often struggle to grow their businesses because they cannot provide collateral for large loans. With the government stepping in as guarantor, women will now have greater confidence and opportunities to pursue their business dreams.
The Chief Minister also highlighted that products made by women from self-help groups will soon get better market exposure. Traditional handmade items, handicrafts, khadi products, food items, and local goods created by women entrepreneurs will be showcased in major malls and shopping complexes across Delhi. This move is expected to increase sales and encourage more women to become financially independent.
The announcement was made during the two-day Mega SHG Mela-2026, where more than 24 self-help groups participated. The fair displayed a wide range of locally made products, reflecting the creativity and skills of women entrepreneurs from different communities.
Rekha Gupta stated that the initiative supports Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of “Vocal for Local” and “Atmanirbhar Bharat.” By promoting locally made products and supporting women-led enterprises, the government hopes to strengthen both the economy and social development.
The new loan scheme is being seen as a major boost for women in Delhi who wish to start small businesses, expand existing ventures, or become self-employed. Experts believe the decision could create more employment opportunities and inspire more women to participate actively in entrepreneurship and economic growth.
