Pakistan claims huge success in Balochistan anti-terror operation
Pakistan has claimed a major success in its ongoing counter-terrorism campaign in the troubled province of Balochistan. According to officials, Pakistani security forces killed 35 suspected terrorists and arrested three senior commanders during a large-scale operation in the Mangla Zarghoon Ghar region. The operation reportedly began on May 13 and targeted members of the banned outfit Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and its linked networks. Balochistan government spokesperson Shahid Rind stated in Quetta that the action was based on intelligence gathered from militants captured in earlier operations. He described the arrested commanders as “high-value targets” who were allegedly involved in planning and coordinating terrorist activities in the region. During the operation, security forces also destroyed several militant hideouts, training camps, and underground bases believed to be used for planning attacks. Despite the government’s claims, the Pakistani military has not yet released an official detailed statement regarding the operation. The development comes shortly after another deadly clash in Barkhan district, where five Pakistani soldiers, including a Major, lost their lives during an anti-militancy mission. In that encounter, seven militants were also reportedly killed. The recent violence highlights the continuing security challenges Pakistan faces, particularly in Balochistan and neighboring areas where extremist groups remain active. Balochistan has long been a sensitive and conflict-prone region due to separatist movements, militant activities, and security operations. Pakistan has repeatedly faced criticism from several countries and international observers over allegations of supporting or sheltering extremist elements. Because of this background, some analysts believe the latest operation could also be an attempt by Islamabad to improve its global image and demonstrate a stronger stance against terrorism. The operation has drawn significant attention in Pakistan’s political and security circles. Authorities claim that such actions are necessary to restore stability and prevent further attacks on security personnel and civilians. However, questions remain about the long-term effectiveness of military operations alone in addressing deep-rooted unrest in the region. The situation in Balochistan continues to remain tense, and officials have indicated that security operations may continue in the coming days as forces search for remaining militants and hidden networks operating in the area.
