Mamata Banerjee’s Nephew Abhishek Faces Major Setback Over House Rules

Fresh political controversy has erupted in West Bengal after the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) issued a notice to Trinamool Congress (TMC) General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee regarding alleged violations of building construction rules at his residences in Kolkata. The notice has intensified political tensions in the state following recent changes in Bengal’s political landscape. According to reports, the KMC has questioned whether proper municipal guidelines were followed during the construction and expansion of Banerjee’s houses located on Kalighat Road and Harish Mukherjee Road, two prominent areas in Kolkata. Officials are examining whether urban planning norms and building bylaws were properly followed during the construction process. The issue has sparked major discussions in Bengal’s political circles. Opposition parties are targeting the TMC leadership, while supporters of the ruling party claim the move is politically motivated. So far, neither Abhishek Banerjee nor the Trinamool Congress has released an official statement regarding the allegations or the notice issued by the KMC. Political observers believe the matter has gained extra attention because of the changing political environment in West Bengal after recent electoral setbacks for the TMC. The BJP-led administration has reportedly begun reviewing several decisions and actions linked to the previous government. In recent months, Banerjee has also faced another setback after his Z-plus security cover was withdrawn by the state government, ending a security arrangement that had reportedly been in place for more than a decade.
