Prime Minister Narendra Modi is currently on a significant five-nation diplomatic tour aimed at strengthening India’s global partnerships in energy, technology, trade, and security. After visiting the UAE, the Netherlands, and Sweden, PM Modi arrived in Oslo, Norway, to participate in the third India-Nordic Summit. During the summit, he is scheduled to hold discussions with the Prime Ministers of Norway, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, and Iceland. The meetings are expected to focus on expanding cooperation in trade, investment, climate action, innovation, and global security.
One of the major highlights of the summit is the growing partnership between India and Nordic countries in green energy and climate-friendly technologies. Leaders are discussing cooperation in areas such as green hydrogen, renewable energy, green shipping, blue economy initiatives, and sustainable environmental projects. Space collaboration is also an important topic, with talks aimed at strengthening ties between India’s space agency, ISRO, and Norway’s space institutions. Discussions on Arctic research and satellite technology are also part of the agenda.
While addressing a press conference in Oslo alongside Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, PM Modi emphasized that global conflicts cannot be solved through war and violence. He stated that dialogue, diplomacy, and peaceful negotiations are the only effective ways to resolve major international crises, including the Ukraine conflict and tensions in West Asia. Modi also stressed the importance of reforming international institutions to tackle emerging global challenges and called for united efforts to eliminate terrorism worldwide.
During the visit, Norway honored PM Modi with the “Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit,” regarded as one of the country’s highest civilian honors. This marks the 32nd international award received by the Indian Prime Minister from foreign nations, reflecting India’s growing diplomatic influence.
PM Modi also attended the India-Norway Business and Research Summit in Oslo, where he interacted with leaders from major Norwegian companies and research organizations. The summit explored opportunities in sectors such as clean energy, green hydrogen, shipping, robotics, healthcare technology, education, and scientific research. Companies participating in the summit reportedly represented a combined market value of nearly $200 billion. Modi highlighted India’s emergence as a reliable destination for global investment and innovation.
Overall, the five-nation tour is being viewed as a major strategic effort to position India as a global hub for technology, manufacturing, clean energy, and future-focused industries. Key agreements related to oil, LNG, semiconductors, AI, green energy, and defense cooperation are expected to strengthen India’s economic and geopolitical standing in the coming years.
