Prime Minister Narendra Modi has concluded his visit to Norway and departed for Italy as part of his ongoing five-nation international tour. Before leaving Norway, PM Modi attended the third India-Nordic Summit held in Oslo, where he emphasized the growing partnership between India and the Nordic nations. He described India and the Nordic countries as “natural partners” because of their shared commitment to democracy, law, and peaceful cooperation. The Nordic region includes Norway, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, and Sweden.
During the summit, PM Modi met several top Nordic leaders, including Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Støre, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen, Finnish Prime Minister Petteri Orpo, and Icelandic Prime Minister Kristrún Mjöll Frostadóttir. The discussions focused on strengthening strategic, economic, technological, and environmental cooperation between India and the Nordic countries. PM Modi stated that this partnership will continue to expand in the coming years through mutual trust and innovation.
Addressing global conflicts during a press conference in Oslo, PM Modi said that major international crises cannot be solved through war and violence. He stressed that dialogue, diplomacy, and peace are the only effective solutions to challenges such as the Ukraine conflict and tensions in West Asia. According to the Prime Minister, both India and Norway strongly support peaceful negotiations and global stability. He also highlighted the urgent need for reforms in international institutions to deal with modern global challenges more effectively. Modi further reiterated India’s strong stance against terrorism and called for complete elimination of terror networks worldwide.
A major highlight of the Norway visit was PM Modi receiving Norway’s highest civilian honor, the “Grand Cross of the Royal Norwegian Order of Merit.” This recognition marked the 32nd international award received by Narendra Modi from foreign countries during his tenure as Prime Minister.
Earlier in the visit, PM Modi also participated in the India-Norway Business and Research Summit in Oslo. There, he interacted with leaders of major Norwegian companies and research organizations. Discussions covered several future-focused sectors such as renewable energy, green hydrogen, shipping, robotics, healthcare technology, education, and scientific research. Modi said India is emerging as a reliable destination for investment, innovation, and global partnerships, offering vast opportunities for international businesses.
